Toph taught Lin everything she knew, from teaching her that bending isn’t just just about fighting but also interacting with the world. Lin was also taught how to use the the seismic sense; “seeing with my feet.” This to be taken away from Lin is a biggest loss of all. She’s lost her mother, her lover, her job, and now her bending -her connection to her mother, an identity she’s always held on to (Since bending is an identity to benders). As “Esteemed Chief of Police” she cares about protecting Republic City more than anything; Taking charge of the championships in the pro-bending arena, saving Korra when she was about to fall to her doom, risking her job even if Hiroshi Sato might not be the culprit, resigned her job to find her metalbenders outside the law, discharged herself from the hospital the moment she found out Korra was taken by Amon, holds no grudge in protecting Tenzin’s family, finally sacrificing herself so that the Equalists will stop chasing after the last airbenders. In a way, Lin saved the world from falling out of balance, if Amon took the bending of the last airbenders, everything would have fell out of balance. There would be no Avatar from the Air Nomads. She gave one last glance at Tenzin’s family -not at Tenzin, these people were representations of what could’ve been hers, she sees the woman who “took” her man and yet she sees how vulnerable they are and knows she has a chance to stop those airships. Amon gave her a chance to tell him where Korra was or she can keep her bending, and yet she declines him. She doesn’t even fight, she knew what was coming to her. Lin Bei Fong always been the girl who’s decisive and faces things head on, always thinking about others and putting herself last. Her mother would be so proud that she’s given the ultimate price.
